Why I started making jewellery ?

I love to contemplate objects and spaces, in particular how they relate to each other and to us, the “in between”.

I believe mental space needs the craft and arts to help us take roots in our present and environment. Craft allows the maker to be at peace and flourish. But it does what art may not do – or not always: a beautifully crafted object helps its user and owner to feel confident, special but also at peace with their own selves. An intimate bound exists between the user, the object, the maker, and the time space they all belong to. It is true for individuals as for communities and nations.

I was born in a place where the craft has almost disappeared, in all specialities. Everything is imported replacing what was there before. I have even seen Chinese imports mimicking local craft. This for me is a direct symptom of the despair in which people are born into: no peace, no confidence, no time for their mental space to take a hold – in whatever shape – of their space and present.

So crafting is a way for me to react and to write this story. Jewellery came to me – rather I went for it - because it can be started with whatever you have at hand. Like choosing materials from the space you want to talk about... It is an art you wear close to the skin, enhancing this special bound between the piece and its owner. It can embrace all crafts which satisfies the curious inside me.

Behind each collection I am trying to bring in a narrative, the story of a space. "Sand and Fire" is my first chapter.
